While attending an opening ceremony of an exhibition in Beijing China in April 2008
Madeline Meza Janovec, local visual artist from Portland, Oregon and small gallery owner, was invited by Dr. Ji-hee Kim of Daegu, South Korea to exhibit a set of her jewelry at the event presented by the Korean Cultural Center in Los Angeles.
At the Los Angeles opening reception and ceremony the audience will enjoy an award winning Korean traditional dance and a fashion show comparing the traditional and the modern Korean artists' art work.
Ms. Janovec and Una Kim will be the two American artists joining the Korean artists in the exhibition so that the audience can enjoy the contrast and comparison of the Western and the Oriental art as well as the traditional and the modern design.
Dr. Ji-hee Kim is the Director of the Museum of Natural Dye Arts in Daegu, South Korea who meet Ms. Janovec when she had a one person exhibition of her jewelry at the Woobong Art Museum in Daegu, South Korea in 2006 and formed a lasting friendship. Dr. Ji-hee Kim will give a lecture and demonstration of natural dying the next day at the center which will be open to the public. She will introduce the audience to her specialty of Indigo and Safflower dying. In Daegu, Dr. Ji-hee Kim has a farm near her Museum in Korea where she raises these plants for the dyes. Ms. Janovec was able to see the whole process in 2006.
